Introduction - Outline

Introduction (Chapter 01 of the PMBOK® Guide Fifth Edition) starts with presenting basic purpose and context of the PMBOK® Guide. It moves on to discuss key concepts, an overview of the broader context of project management, and the role of a project manager. All the discussion would be from perspective of Project Management Institute, Inc. (PMI).

The lectures and the associated assignments, however, go beyond the contents of the chapter to include additional material covering advantages, benefits (both at individual and organizational levels), application, growing importance, and value of project management.

Objectives

  • To introduce Project Management Institute, Inc., and highlight it major activities.
  • To introduce A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (the PMBOK® Guide - Fifth Edition), and present its purpose and context.
  • To present basic concepts in project management from perspective of the PMBOK® Guide and PMI®.
  • To high light the growing importance of project management, present its benefits, and discuss the value it it adds to organizations.
