Managing Projects using Microsoft Project 2013

This course offers a specialized training which focuses on effectively using Microsoft Project 2013 as project management tool for managing projects.

Course Objectives

The main objective of the course is to facilitate participants acquire skills to effectively use Microsoft Project 2013 as a project management tool across different stages of project life cycle.

The participant will learn how to use the tool, effectively and efficiently, for planning projects; tracking project progress; proactively analyze, diagnose and resolve project issues; and reporting project progress to project stakeholders.

It will empower participants to have better control on their projects’ scope, schedule, budget and resources’ utilization, and lead their successfully from planning till closure.

Approach or Philosophy

The course is designed in alignment with global standards of Project Management Institute (PMI): A Guide to Project Management Body of Knowledge (the PMBOK Guide® - 5th Edition) and Practice Standard for Work Breakdown Structure – 2nd Edition.

The course describes the core foundation of Microsoft Project 2013 and facilitate participants acquire skills required to begin building on that foundation. Instructional design and delivery focuses on enabling the participants to readily apply it in their respective work environment and boost their productivity.

The course fundamentally focuses on project management context. Participants will be exposed to real life practice by mimicking different stages of development of a project for a sample project in a stepwise manner. Assuming primary roles of project manager and project management team members, relevant Microsoft Project 2013 skills will be developed across these stages, and required features and techniques of the tool will be explored.

The course is designed to be stand alone and beneficial to (a) any individual, aspiring or new project management practitioners desiring to develop and strengthen their project management skills sets, and (b) practicing project managers desiring to enhance their performance or seeking a refresher on fundamental project management knowledge, skills and current tools.

Prerequisites

Though the course is designed for wide levels of Microsoft Project experience, however prospective students should have a basic understanding of project management and good computer skills, especially Microsoft Office.

To achieve the learning objectives and get maximum benefit from the course, the participants would be required to practice beyond formal classroom instruction and practice.

The participants are required to bring their personal laptops.

Note: Students will be required to bring flash key (atleast 2GB capacity) to copy soft version of course material at the start of the course.
